Tips on Preventing Hearing Problems

Tips on Preventing Hearing Problems

Although hearing problems can occur for a variety of reasons, the most common culprit is everyday noise. People are used to living with this type of pollution, so they often don’t think of loudness as a problem. That’s why they don’t do anything about it, and they’re wrong.

Hearing problems can be prevented or at least minimized by their impact on quality of life. You just have to avoid noise and make some minor lifestyle changes. It seems easier said than done, but these are necessary if you want to preserve your hearing.

It’s always a good idea to see audiologists regularly. If necessary, they might suggest some medication or an inexpensive hearing aid that will improve your hearing. If you still don’t need these, work on some everyday things, and you will soon notice an improvement.

Proper Blood Circulation

One of the most important things you can do to regain your hearing is to make sure that you keep blood flow inside your hearing organs smooth. It also means taking care of your cardiac health because high blood pressure can hurt the delicate mechanisms inside your ears.

You should massage your nape from time to time. It’s best to do that while you’re showering. A jet of water and a targeted touching will speed up the blood flow in your head, leading to better nutrient transportation to your hearing organs.

Clean Your Ears

Proper hygiene is of crucial importance for preventing deafness. A buildup of wax in your ears can muffle sound, so you should remove the excess regularly. But if you use cotton swabs too often, you are not doing yourself any good. Namely, swabs actually push these substances even deeper into the ear, thus clogging it. So, you should try other methods to clean the ears.

Pay equal attention to the outer and inner parts of the ear. During the shower, you can use a damp cloth and run light movements over the outer ear, following each crease on the earlobe. You can use ear swabs this time.

But these tiny sticks are a no-no for cleaning the inside of the ear. Better use the edge of a damp towel or an at-home irrigation kit. It will soften the wax and gently wash it out. If it gets compacted in your ear, your doctor may need to remove it.

Increase Nutrient Intake

Another good thing to do to restore normal hearing functioning is to eat healthily. You should increase the intake of foods rich in antioxidants and vitamins. These include fruits and vegetables, as well as whole grains, fish, chicken, seeds, nuts, and beans. You’ll be glad to know that bananas, peanuts, and dark chocolate are rich in nutrients that have a beneficial effect on your ears.

Vitamin B complex (folic acid or B9 predominates) and magnesium work together to prevent hearing issues. The impact of these has been studied in the lab. The preliminary results showed that these nutrients could help to make auditory nerve conductors strong.

Wear Ear Protection

hearing problems

One of the causes of hearing loss is excessive noise which you probably neglect if exposed to it daily. Try to stay as short as possible in areas where the sound level is increased in order to preserve your hearing and health. If you have to be in such a space because of work or use noisy machines, wear proper protection. These are usually earplugs or earmuffs.

The latter is a much better solution as muffs cover the entire ear and are much more comfortable than anything you push in your ear. Wear them every day, and after you’ve gotten used to using hearing protection, you can start to take it easy.

Monitored Use of Conventional Drug

While medications are taken for their established benefits, they all have side effects that you should be aware of before taking them. Some conventional drugs have an ototoxic effect; that is, they can cause temporary hearing loss. That’s just one reason why you should never take any medicine on your own.

Of course, these risks are small, but they exist with specific groups of drugs. These are certain antibiotics and diuretics, as well as salicylates. Discuss with your doctor all the risks of taking a particular therapy and possible side effects. If you experience any of the symptoms listed in this source, a change in treatment is necessary.

Quit Smoking and Drinking

Nicotine has a devastating effect on your ear health. If you are a smoker, you have many times more chances to become deaf, even in earlier years. The reason is simple – cigarettes affect blood pressure, which is directly related to the health of the hearing aid and the inner ear.

The same goes for alcohol. Hearing loss is a slow but continuous process, so moderate amounts of alcohol are just as harmful as higher doses. Long-term drinking has consequences for the brain structure, as it kills the neurotransmitters responsible for transmitting sound impulses. Those who drink moderately can end up with as much nerve damage and hearing loss as alcoholics.

Meditation

Another way to avoid hearing difficulties is through stress reduction. That is especially important in today’s society when stress levels are at an all-time high. To reduce stress, try yoga, meditation, or even exercise. These methods will calm you and help you keep anxiety under control.

Whenever you have time, you should focus on relaxation. If you’re having a hard time dealing with loud noises, and your inner ear has suffered damage, then you should try spending some time in silence every day. That will help you relax and cleanse your ears from excess noise.

Millions of people suffer from different kinds of hearing issues. No matter what the cause is, it is never a good situation. In fact, it can be downright devastating if you are constantly distracted by an inability to hear clearly. That’s why it is important to learn how to prevent these issues and keep them under control.
