Turkish hospital receives HIMSS Analytics EMRAM Stage 6 Award

Turkish Hospital Milas 75. Yıl Devlet Hastanesi was recently recognised with a HIMSS Analytics EMR Adoption Model Stage 6 Award, after an onsite inspection carried out by internal and external professionals.

HIMSS’ EMR Adoption Model (EMRAM) is comprised of eight Stages which identify the levels of electronic medical record (EMR) capabilities in a hospital, Stage 0 being the lowest and 7 the highest. The awarded hospital is of medium size, with 173 inpatient beds, and this prestigious recognition reflects the hospital’s willingness to improve patient safety and patient outcomes through digital solutions.

Korhan An, Country Manager Turkey, HIMSS, said: “Milas 75. Yıl Devlet Hastanesi carries out an extensive barcoding process for all the medications that are delivered to the pharmacy at the unit-dose level for two departments (internal and neurology). This process establishes the hospital’s advanced and sophisticated closed-loop medication administration which is worth noting.

“The use of electronic documentation amongst nurses and physicians is also an essential requirement at a Stage 6 level, which the hospital has flawlessly implemented. The hospital is on a solid path to becoming completely digital and will soon be close to eliminating all paper files.”

Second-line order validation in pharmacy with drug interaction checks are also very well-established in the hospital, in accordance with EMRAM requirements, as well as physicians making use of drug-allergy-food interactions provided by the digital system. The fully integrated EMR system at Milas 75. Yıl Devlet Hastanesi provides one single user interface for all clinical areas, an achievement which is particularly worth noting at such a high stage on the EMRAM scale.

Dr Tarık Çubukçuoğlu, Director of Milas 75. Yıl Devlet Hastanesi, said: “We are honoured to have been recognised by such a prestigious body and look forward to publicly receiving the award. The EMRAM Stage 6 award will represent the efforts of a lot of our staff members in a journey which has been worth the hard work with the ultimate goal of improving health through information technology”.

Milas 75. Yıl Devlet Hastanesi is the fourteenth Turkish hospital that has been acknowledged with an EMRAM Stage 6 award in Europe, only Spain has more such hospitals. Milas 75. Yıl Devlet Hastanesi will be recognised for its achievement at the upcoming HIMSS Turkey Conference and Exhibition and will officially be awarded at HIMSS Europe’s pan-European event, eHealth Week, by Stephen Lieber, President and CEO of HIMSS.
