Users rank Epic No. 1 in annual EHR satisfaction survey

Rounding out the field were Meditech (6.0), Siemens (5.4), McKesson (5.1) and NextGen (4.4). While eClinicalWorks slipped slightly — from 6.2 in 2015 to 6.1 this year, the big loser was Next Gen, which dropped back from 5.8 in last year’s survey.

Like in the previous survey, “too many clicks” topped the list of user complaints about EHRs. Users also sounded off about poor interoperability and annoying alerts.

Physicians have had many complaints about EHR use and said they are causing burnout but the findings suggest that the technology is improving. Features that increased satisfaction among the 340 surveyed healthcare professionals included strong security and good UX design.

Results of a similar poll by Black Book Market Research, published in June, put Allscripts and athenahealth at the head of the pack, ranking best in user satisfaction and client loyalty for ambulatory providers for the third year running.In that poll, Allscripts ranked first among provider groups with 26 or more practitioners and independent practices, while athenahealth scored highest with smaller physician groups.
