DoD says scaled-back Cerner EHR rollout will now begin in February 2017

The Department of Defense outlined new timing for its $4.3 billion Cerner electronic health record system modernization project.

The rollout, initially slated for December, is now set to begin in February of 2017 at one facility instead of two as originally planned.

“The timeline identifies Fairchild Air Force Base as the first go-live and we remain in good position for an on-time, enterprise-wide deployment as we continue to work with the DoD and our partners,” Cerner spokesperson Marlene Bentley explained.

The DoD said its second site will now go-live by June 2017.

DoD Program Executive Officer Stacy Cummings said during a call with reporters that the new plan takes into account risks that have have arisen during early work on the project by the DoD and contractors Cerner, Leidos and Accenture.

“During testing, we identified issues that led us to determine initial time was needed to ensure the best possible solution to users at the initial fielding sites in the Pacific Northwest,” Cummings said.
