Finding the Best Self-Help and Care Resources

Are you struggling with how you are currently feeling and trying to work on yourself? Self-help can be tricky if you’re not sure what is wrong. How do you fix the problem when it feels like something is broken, but you don’t know how to correct it?

Thankfully, you don’t have to do this on your own anymore. There are many resources that can help you be your best and improve where you currently are in life. Take a look at these suggestions, and see if they can help you make a noticeable difference in how you are feeling.

A Therapist Who Can Listen To Your Concerns

Perhaps one of the most important and helpful benefits of trying to work on yourself is taking the time to talk with a therapist. These days you can have therapy through Zoom calls and even apps such as BetterHelp that allow you to chat via text. This makes therapy more accessible for everyone since it is not always possible to take time out of your day to go visit your therapist. If you are looking to work on yourself, make one-on-one help something you pursue to see if it works for you.

A Group That Allows You To Be Heard

If you have issues related to addiction like gambling, drugs, alcohol, or even codependency, a 12-Step group might be right for you. These groups meet, either in person, online, or via phone, and allow individuals who are just like you to talk about what they are experiencing. Some of these groups might offer sponsors, depending on your needs, allowing you to have additional support as you get to the root of the problem you are dealing with.

Talk Lines That Can Provide Support

Maybe you feel alone and do not think you have anyone you can turn to. There are various talk lines designed to support individuals who are in your shoes depending on the issues you are needing assistance with. This might include help if you are LGBTQIA, a teenager, feel that you might harm yourself, or if you are a veteran going through PTSD, to name a few. Do some research and find out if there is a talk line that can help. It may only operate during certain hours of the day depending on if it has volunteers staffing it, so be aware of this before calling.

Books That Can Guide You To the Next Direction

If you’re not ready to reach out and talk about your mental health with someone, books can be a good next step to take. See if you can find a book that deals with the problems you are going through. Try to search within a topic that is closely in line with what you are experiencing, such as depression or anxiety, and see what you find. You might be able to get suggestions on other useful books, and even be able to do some of the work on your own, prior to seeing a professional.

Journaling for Comfort and Self-Help

Journaling can be a great way to talk to someone who won’t judge and allow you to air your feelings out. If you are looking for suggestions on how to work on yourself, journaling is almost always a good option. Make sure you keep your journal somewhere where only you can read it, or consider keeping it online with a password only you would know. This way you can write freely about what is bothering you, without the need to think about anyone else’s emotions if they saw what you were writing.

If you are looking to work on yourself, there are many different ways to do so. Talk with a therapist and consider group therapy. Talk lines can provide you with additional support, or you might seek help from books. Finally, no matter what you are going through, writing is a good way to connect with yourself.
