Jun 12 : Medical Scribe Systems Exhibiting at 2014 California ACEP Annual Assembly

Medical Scribe Systems will be discussing how scribes are improving physician productivity and patient satisfaction as facilities transition to the electronic medical record.

Medical Scribe Systems (MSS), the nation’s leading scribe vendor specializing in revenue cycle enhancement and operational performance, will be exhibiting at the California ACEP Annual Assembly June 13 in Long Beach.

“We are proud partners of the American College of Emergency Physicians,” says MSS President and CEO Garret Erskine. “As the largest provider of medical scribe programs in California, it is an honor to be attending the state’s Annual Assembly.”

MSS services a wide variety of clinical settings, including emergency departments, outpatient clinics and hospital medicine. Founded in Santa Barbara by four emergency physicians, it has since expanded its scribe program to approximately 100 sites nationwide and employs just under 2,000 scribes.

MSS differentiates itself from its competitors through training and management systems that focus on improving revenue, compliance and key performance indicators through more accurate charting.

“MSS is more than just a scribe staffing company,” says Erskine. “We closely monitor the impact our scribe program has on a facility’s performance metrics and make management and training adjustments to achieve their site-specific goals.”

Physicians and administrators have been surprised by the improvements they’ve seen in workflow and efficiency after implementing the MSS scribe program.

“Scribes have made the transition to the EMR practically seamless,” says Chris Johnson, MD, Medical Director at Community Memorial Hospital in Ventura, CA. “The scribe program provided by MSS has helped us increase our patients per hour over the past two years by about 12.5 percent. Our charges per hour have gone up about 15 to 20 percent, and we haven’t had to increase physician hours.”

Kevin Parkes, MD, Medical Director at San Antonio Community Hospital in Upland, CA says switching to the electronic medical record reduced the quality of their charting.

“One of our biggest problems was losing the detail of the hospital course,” says Dr. Parkes, who started using MSS scribes in 2007. “Since we got the scribes, the detail and the content of the hospital course is far better than it was, and that’s very important in terms of patient care.”
