Genesis Counseling
Genesis Counseling Services is a state certified outpatient mental health and substance abuse treatment clinic, one of the three largest in Rock County. We were established in 1988, and have a 25-year reputation for providing quality services. Our staff has varied clinical orientations but the most dominant orientation is cognitive-behavioral. We are open from 8:00am to 8:00pm and schedule Saturday hours as needed. Our location in downtown Janesville is easily accessible and professional. I am very proud of our staff and our facility is second to none in comfort and professionalism. There is not a single outpatient mental health facility that makes the investment Genesis does to provide a top notch setting for patients and staff. Our staff is a diverse group of clinicians from numerous backgrounds and specialties. All are licensed professionals in the state of Wisconsin and the clinic is state certified as an outpatient mental health and substance abuse clinic.
James A. Burns, PhD is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist. He obtained his Doctoral degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. His research interests were primarily cognitive-behavioral theories of anxiety disorders. He gained experience working with medically complicated cases in several hospitals through his training including University of Nebraska Health Services, Rogers Memorial Hospital, and the Milwaukee VA Hospital.
He is widely regarded in the community as an expert in the cognitive-behavioral treatment of anxiety disorders in adults and children. He spent an extensive part of his career working in specialty clinics honing his clinical technique for treating panic disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder. Although his practice at Genesis is quite general he has further developed his practice by applying behavioral techniques to parenting, ADHD, and oppositional-defiant children. He splits his patient care with being the clinical supervisor and president of Genesis Counseling Services Ltd.
