Healthcare Hospitals

Mercy Medical Center

Mercy Medical Center is the leading provider of comprehensive healthcare services and programs for the more than 107,000 residents of Douglas County, Oregon. Our history of service in the region dates back more than 100 years to when the Sisters of Mercy raised $12,000 from generous local donors to build Roseburg’s first hospital. The 25-bed Mercy Hospital opened Feb. 22, 1909, on the bank of the South Umpqua River at the intersection of Harvard Avenue and Madrone Street.

Several major fires, the Roseburg Blast of 1959 and growing patient activity resulted in the old Mercy Hospital being rebuilt and expanded three times until, in 1977, the doors were opened to a beautiful new facility at our current location on Stewart Parkway. Today’s Mercy is a sophisticated, 174-bed medical center offering patients throughout the region local access to highly trained medical professionals, advanced technologies and a wide range of preventive, diagnostic, therapeutic and rehabilitative services.

Our 1000 plus employees, 225 medical staff and 300 volunteers offer an array of services that, in the vast majority of instances, eliminate the need for patients to travel out of town for care.  Here is just a small sampling of what you will find at Mercy Medical Center  Care that has been recognized by Joint Commission accreditation as meeting the strict quality standards of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and the State of Oregon.  A medical center completely committed to patient safety, as in evidence in consistently high hospital safety ratings.

State-of-the-art diagnostic, therapeutic and rehabilitative care for patients with heart conditions at Shaw Heart and Vascular Center, the first program west of Texas to earn Accreditation for Cardiovascular Excellence from the American College of Cardiology. Comprehensive outpatient image services, including access to our designated “Breast Imaging Center of Excellence.”

We invite you to explore our website for complete information about the services and programs available from Mercy Medical Center as we fulfill our 100-plus-year commitment to improve the health of the Douglas County communities we serve.
