As part of a transformational effort to bring precision medicine into routine healthcare, St. Elizabeth Healthcare of the Greater Cincinnati region is adding ActX Genomic Decision Support to its Electronic Health Record, Epic.

The key advantages of the ActX platform include evidence-based clinical decision support content covering drug-genome interactions, hereditary genetic risks and carrier status.

St. Elizabeth will integrate ActX Genomic Decision Support within the Epic electronic health record, Epic, used throughout its five hospitals and nearly 120 physician offices. This integration brings genomics to the bedside by leveraging the ActX service to enable real-time checking of each prescription against the patient’s genetic profile. Prescribing physicians will be alerted if a drug is likely to be ineffective, cause an adverse reaction, or need a dosing change based on the patient’s genetics, all within their normal Epic prescribing workflow. A built-in Genomic Profile for each patient will be available within the patient chart.

“We are extremely proud to be the first healthcare system in the Greater Cincinnati region and Commonwealth of Kentucky to bring precision medicine that is fully integrated with our patient records,” said Dr. Barry Wendt, Chief Medical Information Officer for St. Elizabeth Physicians. “This powerful approach to medicine will allow our healthcare providers to focus on preventative risk factors and early intervention in addition to disease treatment. The shift from reactive to proactive medicine is empowering for both our physicians and patients.”

“We are proud to partner with St. Elizabeth Healthcare to bring genomic decision support and precision medicine to one of the nation’s oldest and most respected medical providers,” said Dr. Andrew Ury, CEO of ActX. “The ActX Platform for Epic will help make actionable genomics practical for St. Elizabeth’s physicians and their patients.”

St. Elizabeth’s implementation of ActX within Epic marks a big step toward making personalized medicine the norm for its patients. To learn more about ActX, visit http://www.actx.com.
