VA taps Lockheed Martin for $33 million modernization of health benefits program

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has signed Lockheed Martin subsidiary Systems Made Simple to a $33.3 million contract to modernize and maintain its Enrollment Health Benefits Determination program.

The EHBD program offers Veterans access to their own medical records, information on VA health benefits and help making decisions on implementing their personal health plans.

Systems Made Simple will provide project management, technical architecture analysis and design, VistA electronic health records systems development, and enrollment systems development, operations and maintenance, officials say.

The 39-month order was awarded as part of the VA’s Transformation Twenty One Total Technology program, or T4.

“EBHD will help Veterans and their families obtain high quality benefits in a timely manner, which is part of the Veterans Affairs strategy to increase the ease and convenience of the benefits enrollment process,” said Horace Blackman, vice president of health and life sciences at Lockheed Martin’s Information Systems & Global Solutions, in a statement.

“Through this important modernization effort, we will help the VA realize targeted, personalized care for veterans and their families,” he added.
